The NZ Congress in Wanganui had a big impact upon the final placings. Puchen Wangs convincing wins in both the NZ Championship and the NZ Rapid lifted him to the top spot, while Michael Steadmans tie with Bob Smith for fourth in the Championship was enough to push him past Smith into second spot overall.

The hugely successful Queenstown Classic and the NZ Rapid, also in
Queenstown, had a big impact upon the final placings, as expected. IMs
Russell Dive and Anthony Ker forced themselves into the Open prize-list,
while Puchen Wangs excellent Rapid result took him to the top spot. There
